Kenneth Bae , a citizen of the United States ( U.S. ) who was imprisoned in North Korea for the alleged subversive , yesterday ( 11/10 ) met with his mother for the first time since last eleven months . Myunghee Bae , the mother , was allowed to meet his son , because Bae health condition deteriorated .
The dramatic encounter took place at a hospital in Pyongyang one day after his arrival in the communist country .
As reported by Kyodo news agency , Bae experiencing serious health problems and weight loss 23 pounds since in prison .
However , Kyodo quoted the mother as Korea's Song - Hee Myung stated , his son does not look as bad as the media reported .
Bae told his mother that his condition has improved . The Japanese news agency added , it is estimated there will be a next meeting , because Song is scheduled to be in North Korea for five days .
Bae , 44 years is a Tour operator who is also known as Korean Pae Jun- Ho , was arrested last November after entering North Korean territory through the port city of Rason in the northeast of the country that rival South Korea .
He was sentenced to 15 years hard labor for allegedly trying to topple the regime of Kim Jong - Un .
According to the Chosun Sinbo , a pro Pyongyang newspaper published in Japan as the ruling regime's mouthpiece , reported that Bae then transferred to a hospital in Pyongyang on Aug. 5 .
In a video released before his departure from the U.S. , where the family lived together Bae , Song looked shocked to know the condition of his son in an interview from prison last July .
" It broke my heart when the interview was released from prison last July 3 , because the appearance is very alarming , " he explained .
North Korea, which strictly prohibits proselytizing already stated that Bae is a Christian evangelist to bring materials incitement .
U.S. officials revealed today Bae condition is very bad and the government urged Pyongyang to release him on humanitarian grounds .
